Public Notice: Fire Hydrant Flow Testing and Potential Water Quality Impacts

Public Notice: Fire Hydrant Flow Testing and Potential Water Quality Impacts

As part of state-mandated compliance with fire safety and water system standards, local contractors will be completing fire hydrant flow testing for the Williams Township Fire Department. These tests are essential to ensure adequate fire protection.

Testing Period:  May 14, 2025 and May 15, 2025
Affected Areas: Columbus County Water and Sewer District I

Columbus County Water and Sewer District V

During this period, residents and businesses may experience temporary changes in water quality, including:

  • Discolored or cloudy water
  • Temporary drops in water pressure
  • Slight taste or odor variations

These conditions are not harmful and typically resolve shortly after the testing is completed. We recommend avoiding laundry during testing hours and running cold water taps for a few minutes if discoloration occurs.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Customers that experience problems with discolored water will need to contact the afterhours telephone number, 910-770-2158, to report concerns.  Staff will be working diligently throughout the day and evening to correct this issue.
