NOTICE: RVs Prohibited in Floodway
Issued by Columbus County Building Inspections
Pursuant to Statute G-601

To all residents, visitors, and property owners:

Recreational vehicles (RVs) are strictly prohibited within designated floodway areas under Statute G-601. This regulation is enforced by Columbus County Building Inspections to:

  • Protect public safety
  • Prevent property damage
  • Ensure compliance with local and federal floodplain management standards

Floodways are high-risk zones designed to carry excess water during flood events. Parking, storing, or occupying RVs in these areas poses serious hazards and violates zoning and environmental codes.

G110.1 Placement Prohibited

The placement of recreational vehicles shall not be authorized in coastal high-hazard areas and in floodways.

G110.2 Temporary Placement

Recreational vehicles in flood hazard areas shall be fully licensed and ready for highway use, or shall be placed on a site for less than 180 consecutive days.

G110.3 Permanent Placement

Recreational vehicles that are not fully licensed and ready for highway use, or that are to be placed on a site for more than 180 consecutive days, shall meet the requirements of Section G109 for manufactured homes.

Effective immediately:
Any RV found within a floodway may be subject to removal, fines, and other enforcement actions under Statute G-601.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our community safe and compliant.
