Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The Columbus County Health Department is seeking a Medical Office Assistant to support the Dental Clinic.
This position assists with both clinical and administrative duties essential to the efficient operation of the mobile dental program.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the dental assistant with clinic duties such as sterilizing instruments and chairside assistance to the dentist.
  • Preparing and securing dental equipment and supplies for mobile clinic relocation.
  • Scheduling appointments and supporting patients in maintaining their appointments.
  • Ensuring that patients receive all appropriate information regarding dental services.
  • Presenting the dental program to the community as needed.
  • Documenting important information and presenting issues or concerns to the Health Director.
  • Maintaining efficient patient flow and managing incoming calls and messages.
  • Ordering office and dental supplies, including instruments and consumables.
  • Performing daily data entry of services for billing purposes.
  • Completing all clerical and administrative duties associated with clinic operations.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of dental office business procedures and sterile techniques.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and inventories.
  • Proficiency in computer and data entry systems.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Graduation from high school and successful completion of a one-year formal training course in medical office assisting at a community college or technical institute; or
  • Graduation from high school and one year of combined clerical and health/dental-related experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
