Concentrating on the history and genealogy of Columbus County, North Carolina, and her surrounding counties, a wealth of historical and genealogical resources are available in the Alice C. Lowe North Carolina and Local History Room at the Carolyn T. High Memorial Library, Whiteville, North Carolina
A number of finding aids and informational flyers are included in this website to assist both local and distant researchers. Use the pull down menus under Local History & Genealogy above to access these finding aids. (These finding aids may still be under construction, use the external website listed below for other finding aids)
Distance researchers may contact the library for a limited amount of copies from the citations given. After looking though the books and resources listed on our web site, copy and paste the citation of the source to an email to AliceSoles@columbusco.org with the subject Genealogy. We do not charge a reference fee, but donations are much appreciated.
Extensive research will require a trip to the library. If you are planning a visit to our facility, it is suggested that you write or call us first, so we can anticipate what materials you need, and that staff will be better prepared to assist you.
