The Board of Elections conducts Federal, State, County, and Municipal elections while striving to improve the electoral process in Columbus County. This department is the first step in democracy by providing efficient, fair, and open elections. The Board of Elections has the overall responsibility for administration of voter registration, the electoral process, and campaign finance disclosure.

Requests for an absentee ballot must be made on the State Absentee Ballot Request Form and received in the Columbus County Board of Elections office by 5:00 p.m. by Tuesday April 29th, 2014. An absentee Ballot must be returned to the Board of Elections no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 6, 2013.

A State Ballot Absentee Form can be obtained by visiting www.columbusco.org/elections, www.ncsbe.gov, or by contacting the Columbus County Board of Elections office. Absentee Ballots to be processed by mail are made available beginning on Monday, March 17, 2014.

One-stop voting will be held in the Board of Elections office:

The dates and hours of operation at the Board of Elections’ office are: Thursday, April 24th – Saturday, April 26th from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 28th – Friday, May 2nd 2014 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00p.m. and Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Satellite One-stop sites will be open: April 24th – May 2nd, 2014 weekdays only from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Canvass Day will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Columbus County Board of Elections Office in Whiteville on Tuesday May 13, 2014.

All residents who are registered to vote with the Columbus County Board of Elections may vote in this election. Voters who are previously registered need not re-register. The voter registration books will be closed on April 11th 2014 in order to be eligible to vote in this election. Any voter wishing to cast a ballot on Election Day will be required to report to the Precinct in which they reside. Anyone who wishes to vote in the upcoming Primary Election and is not registered or has moved since the last time voting should register or update their registration prior to the Registration books closing on April 11th, 2014. Anyone wishing to vote on Election Day (May 6, 2014) will be required to report to their assigned residential precinct voting place.

Buffer zones at the Precincts on Election Day and One-stop voting sites will be clearly marked off with yellow caution tape(50 ft from main entrance of voting place entrance). Only individuals arriving for purpose of voting, pre-approved observers or an individual filing a challenge may enter this area. There shall be no campaigning inside the buffer zone area nor should anyone impede a voter’s access into this area.
