 Mission Statement Minimize

The Board of Elections conducts Federal, State, County, and Municipal elections while striving to improve the electoral process in Columbus County. This department is the first step in democracy by providing efficient, fair, and open elections. The Board of Elections has the overall responsibility for administration of voter registration, the electoral process, and campaign finance disclosure.

MEETINGS:

The Columbus County Board of Elections meets at the Board of Elections office on the 2nd & 4th Monday each month at 5:00p.m.

NOTICE

The Columbus County Board of Elections will meet on the following dates at 5:30 p.m. (if necessary) to approve absentee applications for the General Election to be held on November 6, 2012. The meetings will be held at the Board of Election’s Office, located at 50 Legion Dr., Suite A in Whiteville, NC pursuant to G.S. 163.230.1(c1). Any other business transacted by the Board will be done at this time.

Requests for an absentee ballot must be made in writing and received in the Columbus County Board of Elections office by 5:00 p.m. on October 30, 2012.   Absentee Ballots to be processed by mail are now available.

ONE-STOP NO EXCUSE VOTING


One-stop voting will be held in the Board of Elections office beginning October 18, 2012 and ending November 3, 2012.  One-stop voting hours at the Board of Elections office are Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and from 8:30-1:00 p.m. on Saturday November 3, 2012.

Satellite One-stop sites will be open October 24, 25, 26, 31, November 1, & 2 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The locations of the satellite One-stops are as follows: 
1. Bolton Town Hall, 221 9th St. Bolton, NC,
2. Chadbourn Municipal Annex,  208 E. 1st Ave, Chadbourn, NC,
3. Fair Bluff Fire & Rescue, 653 Railroad St, Fair Bluff, NC,
4. East Columbus Senior Ctr., 2694 General Howe Hwy, Riegelwood, NC 
5. Tabor City Courthouse, 110 W. Fourth St., Tabor City, NC, 
6. Old Dock Community Bldg, 12820 New Britton Hwy E, Whiteville, NC

Canvass Day will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Columbus County Board of Elections Office in Whiteville on November 16, 2012.

All residents who are registered to vote with the Columbus County Board of Elections may vote in this election.  Voters who are previously registered need not re-register.  The voter registration books will be closed on October 12, 2012 in order to be eligible to vote in this election.   If you missed the registration deadline, you may register( but must provide Identification with proof of address)  at the Board of Elections office or the Satellite one-stop sites during the one-stop period only and cast an absentee ballot. 

Buffer zones at the Precincts on Election Day and One-stop voting sites will be clearly marked off with yellow caution tape (50 ft from main entrance of voting place entrance).  Only individuals arriving for purpose of voting, pre-approved observers or an individual filing a challenge may enter this area.  There shall be no campaigning inside the buffer zone area nor should anyone impede a voter’s access into this area.
